How could they not see the January 6th Capitol attack coming? Let me tell you how I, just a regular Jill, KNEW it was going to happen with such certainty that I had trouble sleeping the night before. I don’t know anyone who is a far-right wing person or in a far right wing group like these in the videos below. But the reality of the threat to the safety of the Capitol on January 6, 2021 was so plain, so obvious, the only way that this level of insurrection could have gained the momentum it did throughout the morning and early afternoon is complete, willful ignorance of the situation.

It was a Saturday morning about a month into the United States national “soft lockdown”- and that’s being nice about it- when I happened to be watching the news on various You Tube channels- and THIS is what I saw: a “well armed militia” if you will, that happened to be just WALKING AROUND inside of the Michigan State Capitol building as if they not only had just been let in, but had been WELCOMED in. On a Saturday morning. In the middle of a national lockdown due to a global pandemic.

Michigan Was a Warning The Feds Didn’t Heed

Anyone entering a federal, state or-in larger cities-, local building, knows that they will encounter some form of security. From a full pat down and a metal detector, to a security guard that looks like he retired from the police force 30 years ago and barely acknowledges your presence; there is someone who will alert the authorities that a large group of people with AR-15’s is heading toward the state capitol building. Failing that, on a Saturday morning, they, at the very least, will be greeted by a heavy door with a decent lock. They were marching around in the state house yelling about opening the state as if someone had said: “Yeah, there’s a large group of guys in camouflage and tactical gear with AR-15’s heading toward the state house. Let’s let them in-shall we? I assume they probably just need to use the restroom.” In what alternate reality does that happen?

A little over two weeks before the attack on the Capitol

We were warned-and warned-and warned-and warned. I’m just a citizen who spent more time on You Tube and got interested in live-streams of the civil unrest. By December, he rise of the right-wing protesters at these capitols was well known to me. I did not know that I, and the thousands of people watching those live streams with me, apparently had knowledge, readily accessible through You Tube’s algorithm, that the Feds did not know. I can’t believe that.

In Plain Sight

I can’t believe that no one saw this coming! These were sites like Woke that had a good number of followers. I watch both conservative and liberal channels so I can be informed about the the opinions and actions of both sides on the issues I write about,. Granted, this might make my algorithm more “interesting” than usual, but again, these sites had a large number of followers. Moreover, these videos were not taken from some clandestine corner of the Dark Web. It was so obvious that the combination of Trump’s “it’s going to be wild” call and the willingness of the people who heeded his call to make it so- that the potential for an armed insurrection had to be as obvious to the average person as an armed militia approaching the state Capital on a Saturday morning.

So, there are two questions: who let them in and why?
